Implementation of the Introducing Member

Dear collector friends, we have decided to implement the “Introducing Member” field on the membership form, a free text space where new members can enter the name of the member who introduced them to the association.

The goal is twofold: first, it simplifies the acceptance process for new collectors, who, being introduced by an active member, ensure the membership of trusted members.

Second, it opens the door to the January 2026 contest, which will involve active members in raising awareness of the association and its goals, thus expanding the pool of collectors involved in promoting phone card collecting and organizing the PIM 2026 fair.

For a nonprofit organization, the presence of an introducing member in the new member onboarding process is a strategic element in terms of organizational, interpersonal, and value-based aspects.

  1. It facilitates integration and reduces barriers to entry.
A new member often enters an unfamiliar environment: people, language, internal dynamics. The introducing member acts as a relational bridge, offering a first point of contact that reduces initial uncertainty and fosters a sense of belonging.
  2. It conveys values, mission, and association culture.
Nonprofit organizations are not governed solely by formal rules, but above all by shared values. An introducing member, speaking from firsthand experience, is able to communicate the association’s mission, spirit, and culture in an authentic and credible manner, much more effective than a document or institutional communication.
  3. It improves the quality of the new member experience.
A structured, personalized, and supportive welcome increases the new member’s initial satisfaction. This has a direct impact on the likelihood that the member will remain active over time, participate in activities, and contribute to the life of the association.
  4. Strengthens a sense of responsibility and internal participation
The role of introducing member values already active members, recognizing them as ambassadors of the association. This strengthens internal involvement, fosters a sense of responsibility, and fosters widespread leadership, which is essential in nonprofit organizations.
  5. Ensures consistency and continuity in the onboarding process
Entrusting the introduction of new members to trained or recognized members allows for consistent messaging, clarity of mutual expectations, and continuity in the way the association presents itself externally.
  6. Fosters lasting relationships and active collaboration
The initial bond with an introducing member often evolves into an informal mentoring relationship. This fosters the development of internal networks, collaboration between members, and a greater propensity for the new member to contribute concretely to the association’s activities.
